Flying in my sleep

I used to lucid dream quite often when I was a teenager. Lucid dreaming is when you are in a dream, then become aware that you are dreaming, and because you are aware that you are dreaming you can start to control your dreams. Every once in a while I am dreaming and start to become lucid, but immediately lose my lucidity. More often than not, I cannot even remember my dreams, so even if I were to become lucid I would not even remember what happened. Recently though I started a lucid dream which made me want to start working towards having them again, so I downloaded How To Master Lucid Dreaming which was free with my trial Amazon Kindle Unlimited account.

I started the book earlier this week and to my delight it starts with small achievable goals. Almost every time I researched lucid dreaming online in the past the advice goes something like

  • Get dream journal
  • Take these supplements
  • Follow this very specific sleeping schedule

…and then maybe you will start to have lucid dreams. The issue is that I did not have lucid dreams after about a week of following some crazy guidelines and then I would just give up and start following my old sleeping routines.

Why I want to start having lucid dreams

I am currently on one of the more restrictive training commands in the Navy. This means while I am here and in school I do not have the much free time to do fun things and I must get a good nights sleep in order to perform well. Since I need to get good sleep, ~8-9 hours, and I want to do more exciting things, why don’t I do exciting things in my sleep! Becoming lucid will allow me to do exciting things like fly, meet interesting people from throughout history, just get off base.

Setting Goals

This book takes the approach of setting up small goals that are obtainable. The author offers up the following steps to set goals and stick with them.

  1. Physically write down my goals.
  2. Share my goals with others.
  3. Share updates on my goals.

Currently I am writing my goals in my dream notebook and sharing my goals and updates with others here on my blog,

My First Goals

My first goals are

  • Purchase a notebook and pen to keep next to my bed
  • For 2 weeks:
    • Write about my dreams every morning
    • Try to remember 1 dream per night on average.

I am excited to share these goals here on my blog as well as updates.
